Mitsuoka Buddy Special Edition MJ Style Debuts

Mitsuoka has commenced orders for the special edition of its inaugural SUV, the "Buddy," dubbed the "Buddy MJ Style," starting from January 26th. Limited to 15 units for 2WD and 5 units for 4WD, production is slated for around the end of 2024 after all standard models have been shipped.

The Buddy, based on the Toyota RAV4, represents Mitsuoka's first foray into SUVs customized with an American flair. Unveiled in November 2020, approximately 1100 units have been sold as of January 2024. The Buddy draws design inspiration from the mid-term second-generation Chevrolet Blazer, with handmade elements including the front bumper and rear bumper cowl.

In terms of powertrain, the gasoline version of the Buddy is equipped with a 2.0L inline 4-cylinder M20A-FKS engine, while the hybrid version features a 2.5L inline 4-cylinder A25A-FXS engine. Transmission options include Direct Shift-CVT for gasoline models and an electric continuously variable transmission for hybrid models.

The special edition "Buddy MJ Style" boasts a unique body color scheme, with a black base complemented by a red roof to accentuate its ruggedness. The interior features specially designed red leather seats and door trim sets. The seat design incorporates vertical lines and trapezoidal architecture, reminiscent of basketball shoe laces. Additionally, exclusive "Buddy MJ Style" door emblems are fitted, along with BF Trail Terrain 225/70R16 tires and white-painted Dean Cross Country 16×6.5J aluminum wheels. Furthermore, black cloisonné emblems adorn the rear.

The base model for the special edition "Buddy MJ Style" is the "20ST," equipped with a 2.0L inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine and Direct CVT transmission.

In terms of safety features, the special edition includes pre-crash safety (with pedestrian [day/night] and cyclist [day] detection support collision avoidance assistance type / millimeter-wave radar + monocular camera system), lane tracing assist, radar cruise control (with full-speed follow function), automatic high beams, road sign assist, as well as parking support brake (rear approaching vehicle) + blind spot monitor.
